Lab: Decision dashboard for a real business
Over four milestones you will scope the project, prepare the data, build the dashboard with a forward-looking view and package everything as a decision story. Use a real business you own, work for or have permission to work with, and anonymize any personal data before you start.
Free tools: Your choice of free tools from the program: Google Sheets, Looker Studio or Power BI Desktop, Google Colab and Google Slides
Assessed assignment
Build and submit a decision dashboard for a real business decision. Your submission must include a one-page project brief, KPI definition cards, the data model, a working dashboard with at least one forecast or scenario element, a five-to-seven-slide decision story and a short reflection. The dashboard must answer at least three named decision questions and show the decision owner what to do next.
| Criterion | Weight | What excellent work looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Problem framing and scope | 20% | The decision, owner, questions and success criteria are explicit and realistic for the data available. |
| Data and KPIs | 25% | Data is clean and reconciled, the model is documented and every KPI has a complete definition card. |
| Dashboard and analysis | 30% | The dashboard is accurate, usable and well designed, and the forecast or scenario view quantifies uncertainty correctly. |
| Decision story | 25% | The story leads with a clear recommendation, uses honest visuals and ends with a specific ask and review plan. |
