About Course

Build a low-code business app that uses AI to classify, extract, summarize and draft, with structured outputs, human review and safeguards for quality and privacy.

Advance · 8 hours · 4 lessons, a lab, an assessed assignment and a portfolio piece

Who it is for

Makers, analysts and technically curious owners who already build no-code apps and automations and want to add practical AI features.

Prerequisites

NCL103 and NCL104, or equivalent experience building no-code apps and multi-step automations.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify business tasks where AI features add value and choose a suitable pattern.
  • Design prompts that return structured JSON validated before it reaches the app.
  • Integrate an AI model into a low-code app through an automation workflow with human approval.
  • Evaluate AI feature quality with a test set and apply privacy and safety safeguards.

Lessons

  • Lesson 1 · Where AI fits in business apps
  • Lesson 2 · Prompts, structured outputs and integration
  • Lesson 3 · Quality, privacy and safety
  • Lesson 4 · Lab and assignment

Lab: An AI-assisted support inbox

You will build an app for a sample online store's support team. New customer messages are sent by an n8n workflow to an AI model that returns a category, urgency, order number and a draft reply as JSON. The workflow validates the output and writes it to a sheet, and staff review, edit and approve each reply in the app before anything is sent.

Free tools: AppSheet (free for prototyping) or Glide (free plan), Google Sheets, n8n self-hosted, and the Gemini API free tier from Google AI Studio or a local model with Ollama

Assessed assignment

Add at least two AI features (for example classification and draft generation) to a low-code app for a real or realistic business process. Use structured JSON output with validation, keep a human approval step before any customer-facing action, and log inputs, outputs and decisions. Build a test set of at least 20 examples, measure accuracy for the classification feature and describe the privacy and safety measures you applied.

Criterion Weight What excellent work looks like
Use case and design 20% The AI features solve a real pain point, the pattern is appropriate and the human role is clearly defined.
Prompting and structured output 25% Prompts are specific, outputs follow a defined schema and invalid outputs are caught and handled.
App integration 30% The workflow and app work end to end, with review and approval screens and a sensible fallback when AI fails.
Evaluation and safeguards 25% A test set measures quality honestly, and privacy, injection and error safeguards are implemented and explained.

Portfolio piece

A working low-code app with AI features, its workflow export, test-set results and a short safeguards document.

Self-paced, 12-month access. Questions are answered in writing through the student panel. A completion record is issued when you finish the course.
