About Course

Build interactive prototypes in Figma, plan and run rigorous usability tests, measure task success and satisfaction with standard metrics such as SUS, and turn findings into prioritized design iterations.

Advance · 8 hours · 4 lessons, a lab, an assessed assignment and a portfolio piece

Who it is for

Designers, product people and developers who can create screens and now need to validate them with real users before development.

Prerequisites

UXD104, or the ability to produce high-fidelity screens with components in Figma.

What you will be able to do

  • Build a clickable Figma prototype with realistic flows, overlays and transitions
  • Write a usability test plan with goals, task scenarios, metrics and participant criteria
  • Facilitate think-aloud test sessions with at least five participants without leading them
  • Calculate task success, SEQ and SUS scores and turn findings into a prioritized iteration plan

Lessons

  • Lesson 1 · Interactive prototypes in Figma
  • Lesson 2 · Planning and running usability tests
  • Lesson 3 · Analyzing results and iterating
  • Lesson 4 · Lab and assignment

Lab: Prototype and usability study for a booking flow

You turn your high-fidelity screens into an interactive Figma prototype for a booking or ordering flow. You then run a usability study with five participants, in person or through a free screen-sharing tool, collect SEQ and SUS answers with Google Forms and analyze the results in a Google Sheets rainbow spreadsheet.

Free tools: Figma free plan, Google Forms and Google Sheets (free)

Assessed assignment

Submit your prototype link, test plan, task scenarios, consent form, anonymized session notes and a usability report. The report must present task success rates, average SEQ per task, the SUS score with its calculation, and at least eight findings rated by severity with supporting quotes or observations. Propose specific design changes for the top five findings, update the prototype for at least two of them and show before-and-after screens.

Criterion Weight What excellent work looks like
Prototype quality 20% The prototype covers the tested flows end to end, with realistic content, working interactions and no dead ends.
Test plan and facilitation 25% Goals, tasks and metrics are clearly defined, scenarios are realistic and neutral, and notes show the facilitator did not lead participants.
Analysis and metrics 30% Metrics are calculated correctly, findings are supported by evidence and severity ratings are consistent and justified.
Iteration 25% Recommendations address root causes, are prioritized by impact and effort and are demonstrated in updated screens.

Portfolio piece

A usability test report with metrics, findings and before-and-after redesigns, ideal as a portfolio case study.

Self-paced, 12-month access. Questions are answered in writing through the student panel. A completion record is issued when you finish the course.
