About Course

Understand how fungible and non-fungible tokens work under the hood, what stablecoins and tokenized assets are, and how to evaluate Web3 use cases with a business lens rather than a speculative one.

Build · 6 hours · 4 lessons, a lab, an assessed assignment and a portfolio piece

Who it is for

Product managers, analysts, developers and small-business owners who want to judge token-based ideas critically.

Prerequisites

BLK103, or the ability to deploy a simple contract in Remix.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the ERC-20, ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards and when each fits a business need
  • Create and test a loyalty-points token and a non-fungible item contract on the Remix VM
  • Describe stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets and central bank digital currency projects and their business implications
  • Evaluate a Web3 use case using a value, risk and compliance scorecard

Lessons

  • Lesson 1 · Fungible and non-fungible tokens
  • Lesson 2 · Stablecoins, tokenized assets and digital currencies
  • Lesson 3 · Evaluating Web3 use cases responsibly
  • Lesson 4 · Lab and assignment

Lab: Loyalty points and digital product passports

You generate an ERC-20 loyalty-points contract with the OpenZeppelin Wizard and restrict minting to the shop account. You then create an ERC-721 contract where each token is a digital product passport for a handmade item, with metadata describing materials and origin. Everything runs in the in-browser Remix VM with test accounts that hold no real value.

Free tools: OpenZeppelin Contracts Wizard (browser) and Remix IDE with the Remix VM

Assessed assignment

Pick one token-based idea for a small business: loyalty points, event tickets, product passports or tokenized gift cards. Complete the lesson 3 scorecard for it and compare it with a non-blockchain alternative such as a points database or QR codes. Deploy a minimal version on the Remix VM and document three transactions. Write a one-page recommendation that states clearly whether the token adds value and what legal or consumer-protection questions must be answered first.

Criterion Weight What excellent work looks like
Standard selection 20% Chooses the right token standard and explains why the alternatives fit less well.
Working prototype 25% Contract deploys and the three documented transactions behave as described, with restricted minting.
Scorecard and comparison 35% Scores value, risk and compliance with evidence and compares honestly with a simpler alternative.
Responsible recommendation 20% Avoids hype or price talk, flags consumer-protection and regulatory questions and gives a clear verdict.

Portfolio piece

A token use-case scorecard with a working test-network prototype and a one-page recommendation.

Self-paced, 12-month access. Questions are answered in writing through the student panel. A completion record is issued when you finish the course.
