About Course

Automate how software is built, shipped and kept running, from the command line to Kubernetes and Terraform.

This self-paced program teaches the practices and tools that let small teams deliver software quickly and safely. You start with DevOps culture, Linux and Git, then build CI/CD pipelines, package applications in Docker containers, orchestrate them with Kubernetes and describe infrastructure as code with Terraform. Monitoring, logging and incident response show you how to keep services healthy once they are live. Every lab runs on free tools on your own computer, and the final project brings everything together in an automated delivery pipeline for a web app.

60 hours · 9 courses, from Explore to Advance, ending with a final project · Certificate of completion · 12-month access

Who it is for

Developers, system administrators and IT staff at small and mid-sized businesses who want to automate deployments and operate applications reliably.

Prerequisites

Comfort with basic computer use and a computer able to run Docker Desktop; some programming or scripting experience is helpful but not required for DEV101.

What you will be able to do

  • Work confidently on Linux servers from the command line and with Git-based collaboration.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines that test, package and deploy applications automatically.
  • Containerize applications with Docker and run them on Kubernetes with declarative configuration.
  • Provision infrastructure with Terraform and operate services with monitoring, alerting and incident response.

Course Content

DEV101 · DevOps Culture and Practices (4 h)
Understand what DevOps really means: a way of working that joins development and operations to deliver software in small, safe, frequent changes. You will map how a small business delivers software today and propose concrete improvements.

  • Lesson 1 · What DevOps is and why it exists
  • Lesson 2 · Core DevOps practices
  • Lesson 3 · Measuring and improving delivery
  • Lesson 4 · Lab and assignment
  • DEV101 Assessment · DevOps Culture and Practices

DEV102 · Linux and the Command Line for DevOps (4 h)
Get comfortable on the Linux command line, where most servers, containers and pipelines run. You will navigate the file system, manage permissions, processes and services, and automate a routine task with a Bash script.

DEV103 · Version Control and Collaboration with Git (6 h)
Use Git and GitHub the way professional teams do: clean commits, branches, merges, conflict resolution, pull requests and code review. You will run a realistic team workflow on a small website repository, including undoing mistakes safely.

DEV104 · Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) (6 h)
Build pipelines that automatically test, package and deploy every change. You will create a GitHub Actions workflow with quality gates, caching, secrets and staged deployment for a small web application.

DEV105 · Containers with Docker (8 h)
Package applications into portable, secure containers with Docker and run multi-service stacks with Docker Compose. You will containerize a Node.js API and its PostgreSQL database with small, non-root, scanned images.

DEV106 · Container Orchestration with Kubernetes (8 h)
Run containerized applications reliably with Kubernetes: deployments, services, configuration, health probes, scaling and safe updates. You will deploy a web API and database to a local cluster and practice rolling updates and rollbacks.

DEV107 · Infrastructure as Code with Terraform (8 h)
Describe infrastructure in code with Terraform so environments can be created, reviewed, changed and destroyed reliably. You will build reusable modules, manage state and variables, and run plans in a pipeline, all with free providers on your own computer.

DEV108 · Monitoring, Logging and Incident Response (8 h)
Know when your services are unhealthy before customers tell you, find the cause quickly and learn from every incident. You will build a local observability stack with metrics, dashboards, logs and alerts, then run a simulated incident from detection to review.

DEV109 · Final Project: An Automated Delivery Pipeline for a Web App (8 h)
Design and build a complete, automated delivery pipeline for a small business web app: from commit to tested container, infrastructure as code, Kubernetes deployment, monitoring and rollback. You finish with a portfolio-ready platform repository, documentation and a demo video.
