About Course

Program, simulate and safely deploy intelligent robots, from first controllers to autonomous tasks, without buying hardware.

This 60-hour, self-paced program builds robotics skills step by step: robot components, Python controllers, kinematics, computer vision, navigation with ROS 2, industrial automation with PLCs and cobots, and AI for intelligent robots. Every lab runs in free tools such as Webots, Gazebo, ROS 2, Tinkercad Circuits, OpenPLC and Google Colab, so no hardware purchase is required. Safety and responsible use are built into every course. You finish with an autonomous robot project in simulation, documented for your portfolio.

60 hours · 9 courses, from Explore to Advance, ending with a final project · Certificate of completion · 12-month access

Who it is for

Working adults, technicians and small-business teams who want to understand, evaluate or program robots and automation. No prior robotics experience is needed to start.

Prerequisites

Comfort using a computer and installing free software; basic Python helps from ROB103 onward and is introduced along the way.

What you will be able to do

  • Assess business tasks for automation and choose suitable robot types, components and safety measures.
  • Program robot behavior in Python with state machines, feedback control and kinematics.
  • Build perception and navigation with OpenCV, ROS 2 and Nav2 in simulation.
  • Integrate learning-based methods and safety layers into an autonomous robot evaluated with real metrics.

Course Content

ROB101 · Introduction to Robotics and Automation (4 h)
A clear introduction to robots and automation: what makes a machine a robot, the main robot types in use today, how the sense-think-act loop works and how to judge whether a task is a good candidate for automation.

  • Lesson 1 · What makes a machine a robot
  • Lesson 2 · Types of robots and where they work
  • Lesson 3 · Deciding what to automate
  • Lesson 4 · Lab and assignment
  • ROB101 Assessment · Introduction to Robotics and Automation

ROB102 · Robot Components: Motors, Sensors and Controllers (4 h)
Get to know the hardware inside robots: the motors that move them, the sensors that let them perceive themselves and their surroundings, and the controllers and power systems that tie everything together, with hands-on practice in a free circuit simulator.

ROB103 · Programming Robots with Python (6 h)
Write Python controllers that make simulated robots behave: read sensors, drive motors, structure behaviors as state machines, apply proportional control and log data for analysis, all in Webots.

ROB104 · Kinematics and Motion Basics (6 h)
Learn the math that describes how robots move: coordinate frames and poses, differential-drive kinematics and odometry, forward and inverse kinematics of a simple arm and smooth motion profiles, all practiced in Python and Webots.

ROB105 · Robot Perception with Computer Vision (8 h)
Give robots the ability to see: understand cameras and calibration, use classical computer vision for color, shape and marker detection, apply pretrained deep-learning detectors and close the loop by steering a simulated robot from what its camera sees.

ROB106 · Navigation, Mapping and ROS Basics (8 h)
Learn how mobile robots find their way: localization, occupancy-grid mapping and SLAM, global and local path planning with costmaps, and the ROS 2 building blocks (nodes, topics, services, actions, tf2 and Nav2) used to put it all together in Gazebo simulation.

ROB107 · Industrial Automation and Collaborative Robots (8 h)
Understand and design industrial automation cells: PLC control and ladder logic, industrial sensors and networks, robot and cobot programming and integration, cycle time and OEE, and the safety principles that make people and robots work side by side.

ROB108 · AI for Intelligent Robots (8 h)
Explore how modern AI makes robots more capable: reinforcement learning, imitation learning, sim-to-real transfer, language-driven task planning and vision-language-action models, together with the safety shields, validation and human oversight that keep learned behavior trustworthy.

ROB109 · Final Project: An Autonomous Robot Task in Simulation (8 h)
Plan, build, test and document an autonomous robot that completes a realistic business task in simulation, integrating perception, decision-making, motion and safety into one reliable system.
