WEB109 · Final Project: A Full-Stack App for a Small Business
About Course
Plan, build, test and deploy a complete full-stack application that solves a real problem for a small business, bringing together everything from the program. You finish with a portfolio-ready project, documentation and a short demo video.
Who it is for
Learners who have completed the Full-Stack Web and Mobile Development courses and want to prove their skills with one substantial project.
Prerequisites
Complete WEB101 to WEB108, or have equivalent experience with front end, Node.js APIs, databases, testing and deployment.
What you will be able to do
- Define a scoped product brief with users, problems, features and measurable acceptance criteria.
- Deliver a working full-stack application with a responsive front end, an authenticated API and a relational database.
- Demonstrate quality through automated tests, a security review and continuous integration.
- Present the project with clear documentation, a deployment or local run guide and a demo video.
Lessons
- Lesson 1 · Project brief and scope
- Lesson 2 · Milestones and method
- Lesson 3 · Quality checklist and common mistakes
- Lesson 4 · Deliverables, rubric and submission
Lab: Project build workspace
This course has no separate exercise: your lab time is the project itself. You will work through four milestones in your own repository, using issues and a simple board to track progress, and you will produce a release at the end of each milestone.
Free tools: VS Code, Node.js LTS, React with Vite or Expo, Express, PostgreSQL with Prisma, Vitest and Playwright, GitHub free with GitHub Actions, and a free hosting tier or Docker Desktop
Assessed assignment
Build a full-stack application for a small business process you choose, such as appointment booking for a beauty studio, order intake for a bakery, inventory for a hardware store or service tickets for a repair shop. The app must include at least two user roles, authentication, three related database entities, create-read-update-delete flows, input validation, a responsive interface (web, mobile or both) and one report or dashboard view. Deliver the repository, a README, test results, a security review, a deployed URL or local Docker run guide, and a demo video of up to five minutes.
| Criterion | Weight | What excellent work looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Problem fit and scope | 20% | The brief describes real users and problems, and the delivered features meet the acceptance criteria without unnecessary extras. |
| Technical implementation | 35% | Front end, API and database work together reliably; code is organized, readable and follows the practices from the program. |
| Quality and security | 25% | Tests cover key flows and failure cases, CI runs on every push and the security review shows verified fixes. |
| Documentation and presentation | 20% | The README, run guide and demo let a reviewer understand, run and evaluate the project quickly. |
Portfolio piece
A complete, documented full-stack application for a small business, with tests, CI and a demo video, ready to show in your portfolio.
